movingf the Planets People

It is very simple: Follow the principles, join the thousands who have learned to Care for themselves to better care for others and the planet, and then tell your community of Faith about it! Send your story to share. A simple paragraph describing your transformation spiritually and physically, with a conservative before and after picture attached if you wish. If you are selected to be posted on this site, you will receive in the mail, a 100% Organic Cotton Wellplanet.org T-shirt.

Remember, losing weight is only secondary to the ultimate goal: to care for yourself to better care for others and the planet; because of this, you will find that your personal commitment to a healthy diet, exercise, and prayer can indeed influence others. Together, we can make a well planet through Christ who strengthens us. Send your story and pictures directly to tom@hafer.com.

Alright so, here is the story. I was in High school playing sports, being active and eating whatever I wanted. If I were in charge, Baseball would not be America’s pastime, it would be eating. Eating ice cream to be exact. It is probably my favorite, I down half gallons of cookie dough ice cream like its nothing. Well I graduated High school, went to college and got less active. I got to a wonderful weight of 216 pounds. Tom Hafer’s principles, the same principles of wellplanet.org really opened my eyes. Following the principles made it so simple to really see how becoming a healthier person would enable me to become a better servant for God (not to mention get those beach muscles). Honestly I used these principles and I lost forty pounds in about two and a half months. My weight went from 216 to 176. Staying true to the principles is the only thing that can guarantee success. Proverbs 14:23 - All hard work brings a profit. I know you can only see my face in the fat before and after picture but that is really probably all you really want or need to see (Chris@Wellplanet.org -Webmaster).

From 281 to 161 pounds, Jody lost approximately 120 pounds, about 2 pounds a week, no shakes, pills or gimmicks.

Slow and steady, naturally. She remained faithful to the simple lifetime of caring for herself to better care for others, which she can easily see what a difference it makes in treating patients as a physical therapist. She adds, “Because God promised that when he starts a good work he will bring it to completion. I will be faithful.” Transforming from quiet and depressed to a charismatic energy who volunteers on day mission trips for troubled teens, her weight loss is truly secondary to her overall need to stay well to better care for others. By allowing her focus to be on what is most important to her, her weight began to change. She is becoming the person God created her to be. She lives her faith. Exercise and eating properly are no longer the goal in itself. With the goal of a better whole person as God intended her to be, eating properly and exercise have become very natural. The importance of good nutrition and weight training is understood. “There are no short-cuts. My body is my temple. It is up to me to take care of it.”

I just turned 40 and I realized that fitness is important because it eliminates many healthcare problems and adds longevity to your life.

In four months I have lost 15 pounds and dropped down two pant sizes. I feel great and receive many compliments from family and friends on my recent appearance. I don’t know why exactly, but it seems that because I am not so focused on ‘looking a certain way’; fitness and weight loss are becoming easier than they ever did before. I work in the healthcare profession and I do see a difference in the elderly patients who we see in the clinic. It seems that the patients who have taken care of themselves all their lives have much less difficulty. There are many who seem to have chronic problems that probably could have been avoided if their lifestyle was a little different. Exercise and eating right seems to be so much more than losing weight to look good, it improves all aspects of life.

Rudy

If you are lucky enough to reach 98 years old, you must have done something right. Rudy is 98 years old in this picture. He has exercised and eaten healthy all of his life, as far as he can remember. At 80 years old, he had to quit running because it started to be hard on his arthritic right knee. Eighteen years later, he continues to do strength training and aerobic activity in the gym. Rudy feels that you need to workout everyday or else you can’t move at all. “You get rusty if you don’t exercise.”

When you don’t feel good about yourself it dims your inner light and you don’t “shine.”

I was happy but not confident because I knew I was overweight and not in good physical shape. One day I just got on my knees and asked God to help me find my health. Here I am months later and feeling fantastic. The confidence I have now is showing up in all aspects of my life as I continue to walk with God knowing this is the best me, right now, right in this moment.

My story is very typical. I graduated college, started my teaching career, married a great guy, and had three wonderful children.

After a short time it was impossible to find time for anything except for work, laundry, housework, and child-care. Exercise was not even in the equation. It only took a few years at this pace before ‘time’ started to win. I was becoming middle-aged. I was approaching 37 and I was feeling worn-out. About that time, I went on a five day Haiti mission trip with my church. It was a real eye opener. Seeing firsthand what most parts of the world have to live with every day, I realized how blessed my life really was. Eating three meals a day, everyday (two meals are rare in Haiti) is not common everywhere. The impact this trip had was life changing. I let go of the things that didn’t matter. I couldn’t control everything, so I quit trying. Food had changed for me. I found it offensive that so much is spent (in America) on trying to curb eating when so many are starving. I was redirected, to say the least.

Tom

I was denied health insurance in 1994 for being obese.

I have always been 30 pounds overweight throughout my adult life. I never was concerned about it until being labeled ‘uninsurable’ by an insurance company at age 26. I cannot tell you the precise date it happened, but by re-focusing my motivation towards caring for ‘myself’ to better care for others, fitness became easy. Simplifying life frees the cluttered thoughts, allowing a deeper meditation and prayer life. No more sporadic attempts at exercise and disciplined eating; now there is a true peace to the conscious healthy living, turning the illusion of fitness into reality. Being mindful that our diet can directly affect the environment and the poor, compassion for neighbor and the care for the planet, replaces the guilt of overeating.
